pretty much at wits end! Powermax range 185 - continually locking out - usually when due to switch on at programmed time. I followed your powermax- repairs advice below on 'random locking out' over the past 5 weeks - have now changed: 1.control board 2.igition electrode 3.ignition cable 4.gas valve thought we must have now got it sorted and today locked out again a few times. Finally Phoned Powermax Heat team and after going through a check list of gas pressure settings etc and the parts we have already changed - they say they have no idea! do you have ANY further advice/suggestions??? Thanks Read more: powermax-repairs.freeforums.net/conversation/3#ixzz2Wlun6X6s

Into difficult and unusual territory here. The next thing to investigate is the gas supply. Check the inlet gas pressure. Check the pressure drop at the point of ignition, just as the gas valve opens. A gas meter governor is occasionally found to randomly stick and allow the gas pressure to fall very low on initial demand leading to failure of the Powermax to light and lockout follows. I'd suggest asking the gas co to change the regulator anyway if only to rule it out.

thank you - also changed the air pressure switch last night as found that on a forum somewhere as well. The main gas meter WAS changed 6 weeks ago roughly when problems started but not sure of that relevant - will pass onto my heating guy!

The meter regulator (governor) may or may not have been changed at the same time as the meter. If the regulator was changed I'd say the new regulator is quite possibly the cause of the problem. If you approach the gas supplier, stick to the line that the problems began the day the meter was replaced in order to encourage them to replace it again.
Another approach if the boiler is less that ten years old, is to get Potterton Baxi involved. The will do a 'fixed price repair' I understand, returning as often as necessary to sort the problem. And a request to analyse the gas meter regulator behaviour from Baxi will carry more weight than from you!
