I am a gas registered engineer....got called out to a Powermax HE with an intermittent A33 fan error. Fan had a high pitch coming from the fan electronics, sounded as if it couldn't start the fan. Swapped the fan and still got same issue. Any ideas?
Thanks

Well the manual says A33 is 'fan speed incorrect, replace fan or boiler control'. I'd say the PCB is the culprit. Expensive to find out though, as you'll have to buy a £200 PCB with your own money and plug it in to find out! Might be best to recommend you customer calls Potterton out on their fixed price repair scheme unless you are ok with buying the PCB and hoping it's the right part. It probably will be, but if it isn't, you're stuck with it as merchants won't normally take back PCBs once fitted.

Thanks; I did wonder about the PCB but seemed strange we are getting power to the fan and the noise is from the fan electronics. I have booked to go back when I can get the Potterton technical line. This is for insurance, so may well just change the PCB .... will chat it through with Technical.
Thanks, and well done for this forum and your web site -very useful

Well the manual says A33 is 'fan speed incorrect, replace fan or boiler control'. I'd say the PCB is the culprit. . Mike I realise this thread is 10 years old, but here I am in 2024 with the same issue described. A33 error code. Boiler is 20 years old, regularly serviced and was going strong until this occurred. Fan unit has been replaced with a “reconditioned“ unit (I’m guessing they just cleaned it!) No difference. Both fan units look perfect. There is no visible sign of a fault / burnout on the PCB control board. Functionality all operating normally, apart from the boiler not lighting. So if anyone sees this and can offer any thoughts I’d be grateful.

Thanks; I did wonder about the PCB Thanks, and well done for this forum and your web site -very useful MINE HAD A33 and it was indeed caused by control board. Secondhand controller for £66 cured the problem and its a significantly higher serial number so presumably a lot newer although exactly same version of controller (v3).
