Hi Mike Been reading your site, thanks for all the usefull iinformation you have shared. Wondered if you could give some advice as to what the issue may be. My 155 is about 12 years old and last couple of days has been intermittently not firing up, but today it won't fire up at all. if I select the Switch to either Hot Water Cont or timed (with HW & CH timer set to 24hrs or All Day) I just hear a really click but the burner light never comes on. I have taken the lid off and I do see the motor try to spin sometimes but never fully starts. do you have any ideas what could be causing this issue ?
thanks tim

The motor 'tries' to spin? Can you expand on this please? Not sure what you mean.
If it runs normally for 30 seconds or so then stops, runs again, stops, runs again this is the ignition sequence recognising a a failure to light, and going back to the beginning and starting again. After three or five unsuccessful attempts (depending on which version control board it has) it stops trying and the red lockout light comes ON.
Most likely cause is a failed water level switch inside the brass air collector chamber at the top near the back of the boiler. Has an auto air vent in the top of it.

Hi Mike Thanks for your reply I took the top off the boiler and what i call the motor is probably what you may call the fan (top right hand side) sometimes it does try to turn but only for a few seconds but mostly doesnt, all i hear is the relays click but nothing. not even getting as far as lock out coming on. Just for info this is not a sealed system, it has an expansion tank in the loft.
Thanks Tim

Yes I took you to mean the motor-driven fan...!
If it really only runs for a few seconds (how many seconds exactly?) followed by relays clicking this sounds to me like a failure of the control board. Unusual on a 155. A new board will probably fix it.
It won't be what I first suggested as your open vented system doesn't have the water level switch!

Hi, the boiler doesn't seem to ignite (burner)..ive been using it for 1 yr when I moved into this property any had no problems until we haven't been using central heating for couple of months..thr bathwater is fine, just the central heating doesn't come on. Sometimes I can hear a click then stops...the red light has never come on. If new board is required then where and how much can ibget it from..if not can you please advise....

Jaz, If you say you are getting hot water for your taps and bath then the boiler is firing and the store is full of hot water. If you have no central heating then you have a faulty programmer or a faulty room thermostat or a faulty cold start stat or a faulty pump. Your store is already full of hot water, you just need all of those items to function correctly to pump the hot water around your radiators. andytw

When your CH comes if you press Advance on your programmer On and Off are you getting a good click from the programmer and is the red CH LED well lit and not dim ?

Can you be more specific. Which switch are you turning ?
Do you have bright red LEDs on the programmer ? Does the programmer give firm click when CH or HW comes on ?
Does the boiler light up when the switch on the front left of the boiler is set to un-timed hot water ?

Good evening, great page here. I’ve recently moved into an apartment with the boiler being a 155x. The system has worked perfectly. Unfortunately a red lock out ligh has come in and the boiler isn’t igniting. The water pressure bar is on zero after topping the pressure up and do By a factory reset I still have nothing. Any help would be appreciated.
Kind regards
Tom

If it was working fine and then the pressure has reduced to zero, for whatever reason, and then you had the red lockout that is due to low water level, there is a float switch in the top of the boiler. So you have now topped up the boiler to 1 Bar (presumably) and you say you (still have nothing). Do you still have a red light. If so then then you probably have an air lock in the top of the boiler and the float switch still says no water present. This shouldn't happen as there is an automatic air vent in the top of the boiler to let air out of the top of the boiler but this may be turned off or, more likely, is corroded up. Read number 3) here www.powermax-repairs.co.uk/

Powermax 155 Boiler which has a tank in the loft has been working on/off since we moved in 2014. Now, 4 years later it's started to rely on me switching the rocker switch several times for it to light. It's had a new central heating pump back in 2014 as this had seized. Then the 3amp fuse in the spur blew earlier this year and it this was the shunt pump at the bottom had seized. Now the problem is, when timed to come on in the mornings, the flue fan runs but when I check the boiler it hasn't lit. Something wrong with either the spark probe or gas valve but not sure. Once I have got it runn running it runs fine all day. Going off as normal and coming back on when needed. It's only when it's been off over night it fails to start again. Anybody else come across this problem. I'm looking at replacing soon but just want it to run for a bit longer. Thanks in advance.
