Hi
Ive lived in my property with one of these boilers for 10 years couple of problems over the years the well known about whistling etc had pump replaced but always been a great boiler with good heat and hot water output.
Ive had it under contarct with Baxi Heateam for about 7 years and recently the boiler has started banging on ignition, ibelieve its known as explosive ignition.
Boiler starts up but ignition green light clicks on and off a few times and bangs a few times, before eventually firing up and working as normal. Trouble is this sometimes happens in the middle of the night if it is set to 24 hours, and is sometimes seems loud enough to wake the dead, it wakes me and my wife up in the house anyway.
To cut a long story short
Baxi engineers have been out on 3 occasions since xmas first one diagnosed fault went away and ordered new gas valve, returned 2 days later and fitted it, still same problem. Then he suggested governor on gas meter may be faullty and pressure was too high 26bars insted of 20 ? (Maybe) so i had to call out National Grid to check meter, they tested everything and said as my meter was an old type meter their policy was to fit a whole new meter with this type of call out, so new gas meter fitted. Boiler still banging on ignition. I believe the electrodes and maybe new PCB were fitted by Heateam engineer as well as he thought this was the problem, problem persisited.
Now a different engineer has come out to it who his colleague said was their expert in this type of boiler came out and took a look after about 20 minutes he came downstairs to me with a large tubular silver object about a foot high saying this is the problem the "injector module"was shot. He showed me inside this tube and there was two pieces of metal gauze which were shredded which he ripped out and stated the boiler was beyond repair as this part was obsolete. New boiler required, Capped off gas and i have no boiler or hot water in January. He announced my insurers Domestic and General would be in contact to offer a settlement / compensation. ie what he means is they will offer me something towards a replacement boiler to be fitted by them.
What i would like to know is this "Injector Module" obsolete and is the boiler beyond repair, or is this just a way of getting me to have a new boiler from them which i cannot afford.
From reading up on this it would seem only the flue parts are obsolete not the boiler parts.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
