Hi,
The fan spins, the boiler attempts to light, but appears to have trouble and the ignition sparking sounds like a rapid machine gun before the boiler eventually fires with a boom. It's not every time, just occasionally.
We have a maintenance contract, and called them out earlier in the year for this problem which resulted in a new flow switch (the old one leaked), heat exchanger (bolts sheared off the old one trying to remove the flow switch), wiring loom, and PCB (the engineer flooded the old one) being fitted. I also believe that the ignition plate was replaced. It's been OK for a month or so but have noticed the problem is reoccurring.
Any ideas?
Kind regards, Bod.

A facetious suggestion would be to change your service engineer - the one you've been using sounds pretty ham-fisted, to say the least! Sorry I can't be of more help.

We're currently going through the complaints process of the provider as they left us for 3 weeks without heating and hot water, so yes, we will be changing. Unfortunately, we're tied in until the end of the year, so if it needs them to revisit, I'll make sure they do. I'd like to have an idea of the cause of the problem to guide them in the right direction though.
