Hi,
This morning I was halfway through running a bath, and noticed a loud banging coming from the boiler. So I turned the dial from heating and hot water, to off. Also the valve that's on top of the boiler was releasing some form of vapour. I assumed, maybe wrongly, that this is the release for the system pressure. The pressure dial was reading over 3. I left it a while, and turned the central heating on to see if that created the same noise, to determine if it was just the hot water that gave this reaction, and there was no noise. The system pressure was normal (between 1-2.5). So I tried the hot water again and there was no noise created, but now the pressure dropped well below 0.5 bar. So I turned the two taps underneath the boiler to get the pressure back up to 2 bar, whilst the hot water was running, still no noise created, but now there was no hot water. So I turned the tap off, and kept an eye on the pressure, and it went up to 3 bar again, but this time the valve to release pressure didn't open. So I released some pressure through a radiator to get it back down to 0.5 bar, which the manufacturer says it should be at when it's not operating. Then I tried the hot water again, and it went down to 0! So I re-pressurized again to 1.75 bar, still no hot water, but also no noise, turned the hot tap off and it flew up to 3 bar again.
At the moment I have a plumber coming out this afternoon, but he's limited in his knowledge of boilers, he is gas safe registered, so he knows what he's doing there. Just really annoying.
Any help??
Thanks a lot,
Neal.
Also, the boiler isn't showing any signs of an error message. In fact, with exception to the pressure dial, it appears to be working normally.
