Is this the end for my boiler? I have water running out of it? so much that when I switch the water back on it is coming straight down the wall into my front room? Is it worth calling someone out to look at it?

Karen,
This is very unfortunate. The Powermax has a horrible habit of doing this. The tank inside springs a leak and cannot be repaired as there is no access through the steel outer case.
However, I'm puzzled by your comment that switching the water back ON makes the leak start again. This suggests your yours does not have the internal tank leaking as most Powermax boilers are 'sealed system' boilers which have to be filled manually. Does yours have a pressure gauge on the front? If so, it is probably a manual fill version which means the leak is probably somewhere else, and can be fixed.
On balance, I'd say yes it is worth getting someone in to see if the leak can be fixed.

Peter,
Sadly this is a terminal fault. The hot water coil inside the thermal store tank has a tiny leak, and mains water is escaping into the thermal store water. It then flows up the cold fill/vent pipe to the header tank, and out through the overflow. The only fix is a new appliance.
Having said that, I now know of a company who rebuild leaking Powermax 155 boilers. They will supply and fit an exchange repaired one for similar cost to a new boiler, but without the disruption of replacing the flue, installing a condensate drain etc etc.
Let me know if you'd like their details.

I'd suggest a Vaillant. Few people ever call me to fix broken Vaillant and I draw the conclusion from this that they are more reliable than the rest. It's what I fitted in my own house!

Mike, I wonder if you would be willing to post the details of the firm who can supply re-conditioned Powermax boilers (as a 'sticky'?) for the benefit of all Forum users; or, alternatively, perhaps you could PM me with them?

Hi Mike (Powermax fov 155)
I had a bathroom refit and the plumber made a few errors in fitting the bathroom suite and also changed my radiator to a chrome towel radiator. Before doing this, my boiler man that services the boiler annually, advised the plumber what he should do to drain the system etc. The plumber did not follow this and since then, the heating and hot water worked twice but now I have water leaking from the blue round part which is halfway up the boiler next to the copper pipes. I was told that this is a seal and a small job. I am waiting for it to be repaired but now the heating and water are not working and there is a new water stain on the chip board to the bottom right hand side of the boiler which has extended outside the lower boiler casing through the chipboard. I cant see where this is coming from, do you have any obvious idea? There was a dry gap between this and the area where the drip is coming from the blue part so this must be a separate leak? I know that I am providing very limited information but thought that I would put something on here and chance it. There are no leaks from the ceiling area and now that I have turned the water off, the blue part seems to have stopped leaking and I am monitoring the leak on the bottom right of the boiler to see if this is stopping but I am not sure yet. Many thanks.

Just bumping this one in the hope that Mike can post details, assuming the firm concerned are still in business - might be useful to someone on our development some day!
