Hello Mike I have read through a number of posts and I am experiencing the same problems with water pressure dropping and boiler locking out and this has gone on for a few years but has been manageable until now... When I ask a local plumber to come a sort out, should I expect him to say that the problem is either PRV, AAV or vessel? Don't want them pulling the wool over my female eyes!
Also if this takes a while and I am not around to top up water pressure and reverse lock out, is it better to turn the timer off to prevent this happening or the main power switch?
Many Thanks

Corrinda,
Also possibly the level switch inside the brass air collection chamber at the top of the appliance near the back. It's float splits and slowly fills with water. When it sinks, it causes locking out.
No particular need to turn it OFF while you wait to get it fixed, if it will run.

Many thanks Mike, someone is coming to have a look tomorrow. It's been find topping the water up every month or so but now requires it more often hence the finally getting it sorted, hopefully. Also you saying it does not matter if boiler remains on Lock out for a number of consecutive days? Many Thanks

Hi Corrinda, I hope you get the problem sorted today! :-) As you can see I had similar problems with my 140 system. In the end I replaced the air collection chamber that Mike mentioned. This comes as a complete unit with the Pressure Relief Valve PRV, the Automatic Air Vent AAV and the water level float switch. Since fitting the complete unit the system works fine and the pressure remains stable. I paid £130 for the complete unit from an online supplier and it's easy to fit.
Good luck today

Hi Cliff,
Many thanks for the info, have not managed to get it sorted yet. Was it really simple that anyone to manage to undertake fitting a new air collection chamber?

The top of the air collection chamber can be removed (fixed with 6 screws) then the level switch inside can be changed, and the level switch costs a lot less than £130!
The whole air collection chamber is not as easy to change as just the level switch, but neither is particularly complicated or difficult.

Hi Mike
I think I'm having similar problems. We've had pressure dropping issues over the years, going to top it up every so often. Usually we get British Gas out (we're covered with them) and they fix it.
But this time it drops after only a couple of hours so we're going to top it up every day. British Gas came out last week but after two days it dropped again and we're topping up every day again. Is it ok to keep doing that?
The boiler is fine otherwise. We've sold the house and are likely to move out soon. We're scared that if we call out BG again they might say they'll no longer fix it and that it needs replacing.. or something along those lines. And that could jeopardise our sale.
Thanks in advance.
