Hi We are experiencing a reduction in hot water flow. We have had the blender valve changed as we are insured with British Gas and this has made no difference. Engineer said it may be the heat exchanger scaled up. Could this be the case or could it be something else? If it is the heat exchanger scaled up, can this be descaled and is this something I could do myself? Thanks

Yes it will almost certainly be scale. The only other possibility is a blocked inlet filter (if there is one) or a partly closed isolator valve/stopcock. These are very rare occurrences whilst scaling is very common.
I have no idea of your DIY plumbing skill levels but if you consider yourself 'advanced', then yes you could do it yourself. You'll need a powerflushing pump, chemicals, and adaptors to connect the pump hoses to each end of the heat exchanger coil, and a fair bit of time! I'd suggest setting aside a day for your first bash at it.
